OWASMOOTH LICENSING — PLAIN-LANGUAGE GUIDE
==========================================

1. CAN THE OFL FILE BE CHANGED?
-------------------------------
Do not rewrite, shorten or replace the SIL Open Font License terms.

The copyright and Reserved Font Name section above the licence may be
supplemented to identify a derivative contributor and any additional Reserved
Font Name. The original Varela Round copyright statement and its Reserved Font
Names must remain.

In the supplied OFL.txt:

- The original Varela Round copyright and Reserved Font Names are retained.
- An OWASmooth copyright statement is added.
- “OWASmooth” is declared as an additional Reserved Font Name.
- The OFL Version 1.1 licence notice and legal terms remain unchanged.

2. WHAT DOES THE OWASMOOTH RESERVED FONT NAME DO?
-------------------------------------------------
It means that third parties may use, study, copy and modify the OWASmooth font
software under the OFL, but a modified version may not keep “OWASmooth” as its
primary user-facing font name unless the corresponding OWASmooth copyright
holder gives written permission.

This does not affect your own ability, as the relevant project/copyright
holder, to maintain and release authorised OWASmooth versions.

The existing Reserved Font Names “Varela” and “Varela Round” remain protected.
They may be mentioned in documentation and attribution, but must not be used
as the primary user-facing name of the modified family without written
permission from the upstream copyright holder.

3. WHAT SHOULD BE DISTRIBUTED WITH THE FONT FILES?
--------------------------------------------------
When OWASmooth TTF, OTF, WOFF or WOFF2 files are given to another person or
organisation, include at least:

- OFL.txt
- the applicable copyright and licence metadata inside the fonts

Including FONTLOG.txt is strongly recommended because it explains the origin
and modifications.

Do not add contractual terms that restrict recipients beyond the OFL.

4. WHAT ABOUT DOCUMENTS AND EIC DELIVERABLES?
---------------------------------------------
A PDF, presentation, report, branding manual, logo or other document created
using OWASmooth does not itself have to be licensed under the OFL.

You may include a transparent attribution in a branding manual, for example:

“OWASmooth is a customised corporate font family derived from Varela Round
Regular under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The Regular face retains the
upstream glyph outlines, while Bold, Italic and Bold Italic were mechanically
generated and integrated by the project team. These derivative styles are not
official Varela Round styles and are not endorsed by the upstream authors.”

5. COMPANY LEGAL NAME
---------------------
The supplied OFL.txt uses:

    The OWASmooth Project Authors

For a formal company release, you may replace only that phrase with the exact
legal name of the company or other entity responsible for the modifications,
for example:

Copyright 2026 Example Company s.r.o., with Reserved Font Name 'OWASmooth'.

Do not remove or rewrite the original Varela Round copyright line, and do not
change the licence terms below the header.

6. IMPORTANT LIMITATION
-----------------------
This package is practical licensing documentation, not a legal opinion.
For a public commercial font release, trademark registration, or a disputed
ownership situation, obtain advice from a qualified intellectual-property
lawyer.
